Friars Acre in the County of Herefordshire

Friars Acre nestling in the Herefordshire countryside

Welcome to the Friars Acre website

Bed and Breakfast at Friars Acre

For a quiet and relaxing visit to the heart of "Big Apple" country, stay in our quiet, informal Bed and Breakfast. We have about an acre of gardens and orchards and are surrounded by fields and orchards.  Wildlife abounds and it is a lovely spot to watch and listen to birds, go for local walks or bike rides and visit the beautiful Herefordshire countryside.

Friars Acre is two miles from Ledbury, one of Herefordshire's famous "black and white" market towns and close to the Three Counties cities of Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester.  The Malvern Hills are close by and Cheltenham is only 20 or so miles away.   Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol are only about an hour away and the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons in Wales are an easy journey.  if you are visiting from abroad and want to visit further afield, you can get the train to London or Birmingham from Ledbury.

We have two double and one single room available.  There is a sauna and outdoor shower in the garden which visitors are welcome to use (see Terms)

Friars Acre

The orginal house is believed to date back to the mid 18th century - we have records going back to 1811.

Below, how the house looked from the air in 1966.  This is the oldest photgraph we have.

The barn was converted into living accomodation in the following year as can be seen in the picture below, believed to have been taken about 1985.

Note how the trees and hedges have grown in the intervening years.   A further extension was added in 1993/4 to the rear of the 'barn' extension.

We have now finished a new extension (July 2003).   The picture below was taken in early June 2003 and shows the building work in progress.  The new wing is the one on the right and gives us a new good sized kitchen and a much bigger 3rd bedroom.
